If you dislike waiting under the hot sun for long hours and wanted to slowly enjoy the festival, we recommend you to reserve a seat, which cost 3000 yen per person or 35000yen per a table. You can purchase the ticket from Seven Eleven or other convenient stores all over Japan.
How to Enjoy
The ornaments are 10-meter-long streamers and one ornament consists of 5 streamers. They are made in a traditional way with bamboo and washi (traditional Japanese handmade paper). It is decorated with 7 kinds of accessories, which have different meanings. You can see ornaments in front of Sendai Station, in Chuo Street, shopping arcade in Ichibancho Street and other streets in the city.
Around Sendai Nishi Park, you can see about 16000 fireworks on the night before Tanabata Festival starts. If you want to have a good-viewing spot, you should go early, about 3 PM! There will be special free areas for fireworks in Hirose Street and Nishi Park Street (the street would be close to vehicles during the fireworks). Or you could go to Aobayama Park, which is on a mountain, so you may have a nicer view. And probably the best way to enjoy the fireworks is to watch it from tall buildings such as hotels and restaurants in Sendai City.
If you are curious about Sendai local food, check out the food stalls in Omatsuri Hiroba! And try Mabo Yakisoba (fried noodle with tofu and spicy sauce), skewered Gyu-tan (beef tongue) and Sasakamaboko (fish cake), which are three famous stall foods of the festival.
