Overview

While western alcohol, such as wine is made from grape, vodka from wheat; Japan’s representative alcohol, sake, is made from rice, water and Koji (rice fermente). Sake is also different to other alcohol due to the fact that it holds special, significant role in Shinto, an indigenous religion of Japan, as a sacred purifier. Sacred sake is often used during celebration such as wedding party and traditional festivals.
