The event is held at Shimanami Kaido, the famous expressway that connects Japan’s main island of Honshu to the island of Shikoku, passing over six small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. The Shimanami Kaido is drawing attention internationally as a “Cyclists’ Sanctuary” for its uniqueness as a cycling sea route, offering cyclists picture-perfect views of the islands dotting the Seto Inland Sea. 8,000 people from domestic and abroad participate in this cycling event. There are ten colorful courses, a long and winding route that runs through Shimanami Kaido, long-ride course that takes you around the small islands over many bridges, a “cruising” course that includes a ferry ride, and a short course for beginners and families. You enjoy beautiful sceneries in all courses. This event is the only cycling event in Japan held on an expressway. Here, you can enjoy a unique cycling experience.
