morning

Are you a morning person? If yes, we highly recommend you these things below and we are sure you enjoy them. And if not, let’s change your habit while you are abroad and have more fun!

No1 Zazen, Japanese Meditation
Zazen is a well-known Japanese meditation method which started in Kamakura period. By being concentrated and ‘empty’, with sitting still, you can achieve calmness and peace of your mind. The priests occasionally hit you on your shoulders when you move or seem not to very focus on doing zazen. But don’t get mad as it is part of the meditation!

Kenninji Temple offers Zazen program for free on the second Sunday every month. You will do zazen twice from 8am (each zazen is 20 minutes long), chant Buddhist sutra and listen to a sermon. This will finish at around 10am. No reservation is needed, so you can just come along in the morning. Tofukuji Temple also offer free zazen program on Sundays from 6:30am. It lasts 1 hour, and you don’t have to book a place. So just go there by yourself and meditate!

Kamo River, running the city center of Kyoto has always been the trademark of this town and loved by everyone. Let’s take a walk along the bank and breathe the fresh air of the morning. It is also a good idea to get your breakfast from bakeries nearby and eat them sitting on a bench. But be careful with kites, because they are looking for the chance to steal your food!
