Overview

 

Japanese drums are originated to the Jomon period (the time in prehistoric Japan from about 12,000 BC) and it was used as information transmission means. They are often played on the occasions of traditional festivals, Kabuki, Noh (a major form of classical Japanese musical drama) and religious ceremonies at temples and shrines. Japanese traditional drums are played with such dynamic physical movements and it is very energetic and powerful. If you are interested in Japanese festivals or music, it will be definitely an enjoyable cultural experience for you!

Price and Plans

 

  • 1 hour Lesson: 4,000 JPY (approx. 33 USD) for the 1st lesson and 3,500 JPY (approx. 29 USD) for after the 2nd lesson.
  • 1.5 hour Lesson: 5,000 JPY (approx. 41 USD) for the 1st lesson and 4,500 JPY (approx. 37 USD) for after the 2nd lesson.
  • Timing: between 13:30 – 16:30 on every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (please ask for the specific timing).

 

※ Entrance fee, tuition fee, instrument rental fee, room rental fee and tax are included in the price above.

※ The rental fee of Bachi sticks (sticks for Japanese drum) 500 JPY is NOT included (if you wish to purchase, it costs 2,500 JPY).

 

 

 

How to Enjoy

 

You can try listening the Japanese traditional drums in different occasions and you will notice the differences in tone and rhythm. Moreover, the style of playing formations also differ by region. And there are different size of Japanese drums.   • As the lesson will include a lot of physical movement, we recommend you to wear something comfortable.
